FROM A DREAM TO ONE OF CANADA'S MOST UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

The Story Behind The Experience

GTA Exotics was never just a business to me — it was a vision long before it ever had a name. In 1983, I experienced a moment that quietly shaped the rest of my life. I saw my first Lamborghini in person, and to my amazement, the owner invited me to sit in the driver’s seat. I still remember the feeling: sitting low to the ground, surrounded by something that felt rare and extraordinary. It wasn’t simply a car — it was possibility. From that day forward, I was captivated. I studied every Road & Track magazine I could find, memorized specifications, and filled my bedroom walls with Lamborghini posters. But I wasn’t just admiring machines — I was imagining a different kind of life. One built around passion, excellence, and bold thinking.

As my fascination deepened, I became enthralled by the story of Valentino Balboni, Lamborghini’s legendary test driver. He didn’t just drive these cars — he helped shape them. He pushed them to their limits and lived a life centered around performance and emotion. To me, he represented something larger than a career. He embodied the idea that passion could become purpose. That realization stayed with me. If someone else could build a life around what they loved, so could I.

I pursued law and became a Private Investigator, a career I genuinely enjoyed. The work was demanding and intense, often requiring long hours and relentless focus. I worked overtime constantly, but every extra dollar had intention behind it. I was building toward something — even if I didn’t yet know exactly what it would become. In 1997, everything sharpened into focus when I saw the first Dodge Viper at the Toronto Auto Show. It was raw, unapologetic, and unlike anything on the road. I knew instantly I had to own one. A photo of that Viper went up on my wall, and I looked at it every single day as a reminder that goals only remain dreams if you refuse to act on them.

In 2002, I placed a small advertisement in the Saturday Wheels section of the Toronto Star offering a Dodge Viper for rent and test drives — a concept that simply did not exist at the time. There was no roadmap. The internet was barely established, and no one was renting supercars to the public. That Saturday morning, while working surveillance, my phone began ringing nonstop. I scribbled down names and numbers between observations, stunned by the response. Two weeks later, I ran the ad again and experienced the same overwhelming demand. That same day, flipping through AutoTrader, I found a blue Dodge Viper with white stripes for sale. I bought it — and GTA Exotics was born.

What started as evenings and weekends quickly became something larger. I balanced customer calls with long PI shifts until it became clear that I was facing a defining choice: stay comfortable in a career I loved or step fully into uncertainty. After test-driving a Lamborghini Diablo at a dealership in Etobicoke — a full-circle moment from the kid who once sat in a Lamborghini for the first time — I made my decision. I resigned that day. There was no backup plan. I believed completely in what I was building.

The early years were anything but glamorous. I lived in the garage beside the cars. I handled mechanical issues myself. Early-2000s supercars were temperamental, margins were tight, and the business was entirely seasonal. Failure was never far away. Then in 2008, the recession struck. The leasing company I depended on went bankrupt. Assets were reclaimed. Demand evaporated almost overnight, and GTA Exotics was reduced to just five cars. Once again, I faced a choice: walk away or reinvent everything.

During casual drives through the backroads of Halton Hills with friends, an idea began to form. Instead of renting one car for a full day, what if guests could experience multiple exotic cars in a single structured event? What if we created something guided, immersive, and accessible? That idea became the Exotic Car Tour — a world-first concept that reduced risk, increased control, and, most importantly, transformed the business into something that could be gifted year-round. Shortly after, I introduced affordable track experiences during the holiday season through emerging online platforms. Over 1,000 packages sold that Christmas. The business was saved, and momentum returned stronger than ever.

From that point forward, GTA Exotics grew steadily — not just in fleet size, but in purpose. Thousands of guests came to drive their dream cars, but something unexpected happened along the way. They began to believe those dreams were attainable. Conversations shifted from “I wish” to “One day I will.” Toronto eventually became one of the cities with the highest per-capita supercar ownership in the world. No single company creates a movement, but I believe we helped ignite something — helping turn inspiration into action and aspiration into ownership.

The acquisition of Ivy Lane Estate marked another full-circle chapter. GTA Exotics is no longer simply about cars. It is about environment, energy, and mindset. Every experience is designed to immerse guests in possibility — to remind them that belief expands when you place yourself in the right surroundings. What began as a poster on a bedroom wall has become a living embodiment of that principle.

And now, decades after reading about him in magazines, Valentino Balboni will join us in person in the summer of 2026. We are preparing to host what we believe will be the largest gathering of Lamborghinis ever assembled in Canada — not merely to celebrate machines, but to honor the man who gave them soul. For me, it is a moment of gratitude. A reminder that inspiration planted early can grow into something far greater than you ever imagine.

Some dreams take decades to reveal why they were given to you. I am living proof that they are given for a reason. If there is one message I hope every guest carries with them after an experience with us, it is this: the life you imagine is closer than you think — if you are willing to build it.
